We offer full in house and referral Laboratory testing

Our in house laboratory offers the ability to quickly have information regarding your pets health.  We have the following in house capabilities:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Chemistry Panel
  • Fructosamine
  • Thyroid level
  • Phenobarbital level
  • Urinalysis
  • Fecal
  • Cytology
  • Blood sugar monitoring
  • Canine 4Dx snap test (heartworm, lyme disease, anaplasmosis, ehrlicia)
  • Feline triple snap test (feline aids, feline leukemia, heartworm)

We also have the ability to send pet samples to our referral laboratory for more extensive testing.  If there is not an urgency to knowing the results of blood testing we can use our referral laboratory as a more cost effective option to our clients.  We generally receive the test results of blood tests in 1-2 business days.  Below are some of the tests that are commonly submitted to the referral laboratory:

  • Pre-surgical blood screening
  • Senior health screening
  • Histopathology (biopsy)
  • Cytology
  • Urine and skin cultures
  • Liver function testing
  • Endocrine disorder testing

If your pet is scheduled for a surgical or dental procedure we recommend sending out lab work prior to anesthesia to be sure of your pets health status.  Knowing this information can help the doctor choose the best anesthesia protocol for your pet’s safety.

Allergy testing

Many pets, similar to people, can suffer from environmental allergies.   We often notice that pets with allergies tend to be itchy and lick their paws frequently.   These allergens can include trees, grasses, weeds, insects, dust mites, and food.   We provide a blood test that can check your pet for these allergens.  If they do in fact have allergies immunotherapy can be provided to help your pet build up immunity to its allergens.  The goal of immunotherapy is to build up immunity to the point that when your pet comes in contact with the allergen in the environment they will not have as severe of a reaction.   Reactions can include red and itchy skin, sneezing, ear infections, and anal gland problems.
